1834 O-117 R2 Small Date, Small Letters Capped Bust Half Dollar
Obverse: 16
Reverse: Q
Generally a common marriage, but MS examples are rare, with MS63 perhaps being finest.
NGC Graded AU55. Pleasing golden toning, heavier around the edge. Nice flash and decent luster. Very little wear. Pretty certain this is a guido, and the edge is a mess. See below for edge information.
The edge has some sort of lamination issue, and is missing some letters. Below are two views of the 3 o'clock side from obverse, with FIFTY being at the lower right prong.
A view of the bottom of the edge, where CENTS resides. After S there appears to be an issue.
Prong on right above and left below covers OR and HA or there is no OR, which may be more likely.
The issue seems to begin after the *....
Variety Attribution: Obverse-Date is 7 mm., 18 is noticeably wider than 834. 34 is tipped more to the left than 18. The tall 1 has a bold serif and 3 is well open.
