1824 O-107 R2 Capped Bust Half Dollar
Obverse: 6
Reverse: F
Apart from a couple of MS64's and a handful of other MS specimens, this one is rather tough to find problem free in higher grades. There have been a couple of recent AU55's that were sold, but apart from that it seems most of these have been out of site for some reason. Maybe the rarity should be R2? rather than R2. R4 anyone?
Variety Attribution: Obverse-Stars 7 and 8 are very close to front edge and crown of cap respectively. Date is 8 1/4 mm., base of 24 slightly lower than 18 and there is a long pointed curl on 2. Some specimens show doubling on the date, even aa little on the stars. Usually it is most visible at the numeral 4. This is a phenomena of the striking, like doubled profiles, etc., not recutting.
Reverse- 50 C. is 2 1/4 mm. and a large 5 with curved top. Alarge round center dot at the misssing left end of crossbar 5. Arrowheads are close. Arrow to A is 1/2 mm. Right side of T and left side of I in line.
