1822 O-101 R1 "1822 over 1" Capped Bust Half Dollar

Obverse: 1
Reverse: A
This is a common die marriage with even a few graded MS66 at the top. Because of the inclusion of this as an overdate, it is in demand.

Above is the supposed overdate 2, and it is not easy to notice.

Variety Attribution: Obverse-Point of star 7 is close to front edge of cap. Star 13 has a blunt point very close to curl. Date is 8 1/2 mm. and second 2 is heavier, especially noticeable at base. Edge of first cut 1 is visible at lower right curl of 2. There was debris caught up in the die at the second 2 making collectors later on think that this is an overdate when it really is not. The above example does not show it very well.

Reverse- 50C is 1 3/4 mm. Arrow to A is 1/4 mm. There is hardly any extra space between words of legend. A center dot is between crossbars 4 and 5 at left. Crossbar 4 extends about 1 1/2 mm. into the right wing. Some specimens show a fine die break through 50 C.
