1831 O-118 R3 Capped Bust Half Dollar
Obverse: 11
Reverse: M (Second Marriage, used first on O-108, 1830)
This one has landed on my toughest R3 list. Last ten years, there have been 5 MS and 4 AU problem free examples appear, with only 2 AU's since 2006. There are many cleaned examples floating out there, as well as a couple MS65's.
Variety Attribution: Obverse-Star 1 is 1 1/4 mm. from drapery. Star 13 is 1/2 mm. from curl. Date is 7 1/4 mm. the tall 1's have full serifs. Die lines similar to a finger print at end of bust, below star 1 are usually visible.
Reverse- 50 C. is 1 1/4 mm. Arrowheads large and well separated. Arrow to A is slightly over 1/2 mm. Left sides T-I in line. A fine die break joins top of UNITED on most specimens. First used on 1830 O-108 (Rev H).
