1813 O-104 R4 Capped Bust Half Dollar

Obverse: 2 (Second Marriage)
Reverse: B
(Second Marriage)
One of the tougher 1813 die marriages, with few MS and AU examples surviving. Well worn dies make it tough to distinguish from the O-102, with which it shares the reverse die.

Variety Attribution: Obverse- All stars are large and clear of milling. Date is a very wide 10 1/2 mm. with large 8. In this marriage, deterioration, plus perhaps some lapping of this obverse die, has caused pronounced differences in appearance. All stars drawn to edge, mouth is open, forecurl stands away from headband, etc. Usually there is a die dot below star 13 and little or no milling.

Reverse- 50 C. is 2 mm. Arrow to A is slightly over 1/2 mm, Left side of E is centered under D and I under right side of T. I in UNITED is higher than T. There is no center dot. Usually only a trace or no milling.
