1834 O-118 R4 Small Date, Small Letters Capped Bust Half Dollar
Obverse: 17
Reverse: R
1834 recut over recut 1834
There are a few MS examples as well as a few AU's but decent examples that are problem free are very tough to find.
Variety Attribution: Obverse-Stars are all sharp and star 8 is 1 mm. from cap. Date is 7 mm. with slender figures and rather low. 34 is broadly recut, with the first 34 showing clearly about 1/4 of the total height below final 34. 18 also shows recutting but not so obvious as the replaced 34.hair curls are always strick rather flat.
Reverse- 50 C. is 1 1/2 mm. well centered, with slender figures and large C. Arrow to A is 1 1/4 mm. I centered between T-E. Both lines and crossbars in shield are crudely executed. Most specimens show faint to bold recutting at tops and bottoms of AT. Some also show signs of recutting at D, between TE, at upper serif of second S, between OF.
