1832 O-103 R1 Capped Bust Half Dollar
Obverse: 2
Reverse: C
A very common die marriage that appears frequently for sale. There is at least a pair of MS66's and a group of MS65's as survivors, topping the census. There are enough of these showing up in the sales record to aquire one at any time desired, and in any problem free grade.
NGC Graded AU55. A nice original gray dirt coin. Toning does subdue the luster somewhat. Has an older serial number suggesting an original grading from the mid 90's. Looks like a little bit of "guido" action going on with this one, as the word HALF seems to be incomplete, or even struck over the word "OR".
Variety Attribution: Obverse-Stars are medium in size. Star 13 is 1/4 mm. from curl. Date is 8 1/4 mm. and slightly low, with a small blunt serif on 1. Die lump on drapery fold between 18 and clasp shows on higher grade specimens. Star 8 is less than 1/4 mm. from cap.
Reverse- 50 C. is slightly over 1 1/2 mm. and high, 5 is recut at left upright. Arrow to A is 3/4 mm. Left side of T and right side of I in line. AM close at base, with serif if A higher than serif of M.
