1831 O-115 R4 Capped Bust Half Dollar
Obverse: 9 (Third Marriage)
Reverse: A (Second Marriage)
Generally available up through MS64, but there may only be 4 or 5 in mint state. Those that are patient can obtain an AU example, and little premium can generally be expected.
NGC Graded AU55. Thick coating of gray-dirt toning. Luster is subdued yet decent, with little wear present.
A few edge pics:
Variety Attribution: Obverse-Star 8 nearly 3/4 mm. from cap. Star 13 very close to curl. Stars are usually flat with rather blunt points. Date is a close 7 mm. with blunt ones and a three that is heavy and boldly curved. Two pair of segments in milling below end of bust are joined like Siamese twins. This obverse is similar to obverse 6 used on O-109 and 110 but definitely different. Small die defect causes a lump above clasp and right of curl.
Reverse- 50 C. is 1 3/4 mm. Arrow to A is 1/2 mm. Left side of T in line with right side of I. Center line of stripe 3 extends distinctly well below point of shield and lower crossbar extends well left of shield. Letters of legend are usually drawn to edge.
