1830 O-107 R2 Small 0 Capped Bust Half Dollar
Obverse: 4
Reverse: G
O-107 R2 below, O-107a R2 at bottom
On my list of toughest R2's. Perhaps most were circulated, but higher grade examples, though available, do not appear as frequently as one would expect. 23 AU/MS examples have appeared the past 10 years, which is not a lot considering that R2 indicates 500-1000 examples xtant.
Variety Attribution O-107: Obverse-Star 1 is 1 mm. from drapery. Star 13 is 1/4 mm. from curl. Date is 8 mm, and well centered. Many show a double profile. Some specimens show recutting along top of bottom serifs of 1.
O-107a: Die cracks, two from the milling just above star 7, one staight into front of cap and across headband is a very fine one. The other crosses top of cap then through stars 8 and 9 and to edge at star 10. Another from edge near star 11 circles down through outer points of stars 12 and 13, through date, across end of bust, joins stars 1 through 6 and curves under star 7 to front of cap. Chipping of the die occurs at star 1 and left drapery from the crack.
Reverse- 50 C. is 1 1/2 mm. and high. Arrow to A is slightly less than 1/2 mm. Left side of I is centered under T. A sharp spike protrudes from upper left corner of shield.
