1827 O-118 R3 Capped Bust Half Dollar
Obverse: 14
Reverse: O
O-118 R3 is below O-118a R3? at bottom, though I doubt the 118a is an R3, probably R5 or R6.
Generally tough to find in grades above XF, with few MS and AU appearances. There is an MS65 that tops the census.
Variety Attribution O-118: Obverse-This obverse is very similar to obverse 2 (see O-104), but on this one star 2 points to lower half of a segment and top of 1 is a full mm. from drapery. On obverse 2 star 2 points to the upper half of the segment and the 1 is 3/4 mm from drapery. Date is 8 1/4 mm. and rather low.
O-118a: Die has begun to break down from wear. Little or no milling. Stars mostly flat and drawn to edge. Bottom of 8 is broken and joined to edge by the chipped die.
O-118: Reverse- 50 C. is 1 1/4 mm. and low. The large, well formed 5 has a curved top, is higher and tipped more to left than 0. ED nearly touch at base. Arrowheads separated and the large upper one nearly touches A, to the naked eye they appear to touch but under a glass barely miss doing so. ED and ERI nearly touch. Left sides of T-I in line.
O-118a: Little or no milling remains.
