1823 O-106 R2 Capped Bust Half Dollar
Obverse: 5
Reverse: F
O-106 R2? is below, O-106a R2 at bottom
This later die state is more common than the earlier O-106 state, with more high grade examples available up to MS65. O-106 prime is likely more of an R3 or R4.
Variety Attribution: Obverse-Stars are large and mostly flat. Date is 8 mm. with a a large well-formed 3 that is taller than 182. The three has either been tampered with or a chip has broken out of the die, and while it is still taller than other figures, it is not so well formed. The bottom loop is more open and angular, the back nearly straight without the graceful curves of the previous number. Although in this variety the three is a bit rough and irregular, it is not any of the varieties known as the broken, patched, or ugly 3's.
O-106a: There is a fine die crack through stars 11-12-13 to curl.
Reverse- 50C is 2 1/2 mm. and a trifle low. Arrow to A is 1/4 mm. I is centered under T. No center dot. RI nearly touch.
