1822 O-102 R4+ "1822 over 1" Capped Bust Half Dollar
Obverse: 2
Reverse: B (Second Marriage)
A very tough marriage with with problem free specimens above XF very rarely appearing on the market.
Variety Attribution: Obverse-Star 1 only 1/2 mm. from drapery. Date is 8 1/2 mm. Base of second 2 is much heavier, than base of first 2, the difference even more pronounced than in O-101. There was debris caught up in the die at the second 2 making collectors later on think that this is an overdate when it really is not. There are small rough lumps between upper inside points of star 12. Late states show cracks at date and stars 12 and 13 first from top of 8 to lower curl. Another from curl through lower point of star 13 to edge. A third from edge at second crack to tip of star 13 to star 12.
Reverse- 50C is 1 3/4 mm. Arrow to A is 3/4 mm. Left sides of D-E and right sides of T-I are in line. Large center dot between lines 4 and 5.
