1818 O-110 R4 Capped Bust Half Dollar
Obverse: 7 (Second Marriage)
Reverse: D (Second Marriage)
This die marriage is extremely tough above grades of XF, with perhaps 3 or so MS examples followed by a small handful of AU's. It does seem like many examples are heavily marked with contact marks.
NGC Graded AU50. Pretty orange and blue toning. Plenty of luster to support the grade. Quite a few contact marks throughout. Its cool finding an R4 in AU.
Variety Attribution: Obverse-Stars are large, well struck and close to milling. Date is 9 mm. and low. 81 closest, first 1 high and wide. Specimens all have a worn and deteriorated die, with stars solidly drawn to edge.
Reverse- 50 C. is 1 3/4 mm. Arrow to A is 1 mm. Left sides of D and T are in line with right sides of E and I. Line 1 of stripe five solid to crossbar 2. Line 3 extends into right wing. The "Solid" triple segment above R is actually three separate segments that are not well separated. When wear occurs the segments quickly appear to be one large triple segment. Die crack from above TED to top of STAT and to edge above E.
