1836 O-109 R3 Capped Bust Half Dollar
Obverse: 6
Reverse: G
There are proofs available of this marriage, but for whatever reason, it is scarcer than the R3 would indicate. A few examples have popped up in 2015, two of which were out of BHNC collections. There may be an MS64 as finest at the top of the census, but AU and MS examples are rare, and even with the recent appearances, only 9 have appeared the last ten years, and a couple of those were not very pretty!
Variety Attribution: Obverse-Stars are in front of rim and mostly sharp. Date 7 1/2 mm. 183 are even at bottom, but 3 is lower at top. 6 is larger and higher. RTY in LIBERTY is weak. Stars 10, 12 and 13 are recut at upper points.
Reverse- 50 C. is 1 mm. and high, with a small C, that is almost entirely under the stem. The 5 has a straight top and loop is nearly closed. Arrow to A is 1 mm. Left side of D and right side of E in line. I left of T. Center dot between crossbars 3 and 4. Line I of stripe 4 extends to crossbar 2 at top and well below border of shield at bottom.
